Note from our CEO

Dear Sedex Members,

It has been almost exactly a year since I took on the CEO role at Sedex and I don’t think that when I started, I could have possibly imagined where the world would be in the next 12 months. As I sit here writing this note from my kitchen table, rather than the office, with one eye to the news reports, it shows just how much the world can change due to unforeseen events, such as the COVID-19 virus. I hope that as with the Sedex business, you have been able to keep your businesses running and protect your staff in these difficult circumstances. My thoughts go out to all of you, your families and your staff at this time.

It’s a timely reminder for all of us to look at the resilience of our businesses: firstly, our staff and processes, then to those that we supply to, and to those who supply us. When events like this unfold, we realise the importance of our interconnected world, and the personal as well as business relationships we hold. Sedex has always existed to help keep that world connected and allow all of you to share information quickly, accurately and at low cost.

At Sedex, we’re committed to continuing to help you throughout difficult events, such as the current crisis and our staff and systems will continue to serve you without interruption. We are operating the same opening hours and our systems remain fully functional. In short: we’re here to help whenever you need us. We’re excited to have launched both the new Self-Assessment Questionnaire plus our new risk-assessment tool, Radar, which will help you quickly identify route-to-supply for goods and services, focusing on specific geographic areas and services. It will clearly show you areas of good practice, as well as where you may wish to consider further research due to employment risks.

We know that as the world recovers from the COVID-19 crisis, the global supply chain machine will swing into action once more and many businesses will be looking to recover lost time and revenue. There’s always the danger as we all seek to get our goods and services moving, that we overlook the most important aspect of that machine – namely the people who work to design, manufacture, grow and deliver those goods. We hope that you will all use the power of the Sedex tools and the community to ensure that we all continue to focus on what matters most – protecting our workers and being a responsible business.
