STEM Superwomen: Sedex’s Gemma Maidment is Finalist at Women In Tech Excellence Awards

Gemma Maidment, Sedex’s Global Head of Product, was shortlisted for two awards at a night honouring outstanding female talent in technology.

Sedex is delighted that the recent Women In Tech Excellence Awards 2023 named our Global Head of Product, Gemma Maidment, as a finalist for Digital Leader of the Year and Outstanding Transformation of the Year.

The Women In Tech Excellence Awards celebrate inspirational, influential women in the UK technology industry. As a finalist, Gemma was recognised for her ability to lead people, products and businesses through complex digital transformations. This saw great success over the past year in Gemma’s previous role before she joined Sedex.

Science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) fields remain significantly male-dominated. Women represent just one-quarter (26%) of STEM professionals in the UK.1

These Awards help to change this, by showcasing successful women in senior tech roles and challenging stereotypical ideas of a “tech leader”. They highlight the capabilities of women, the variety of opportunities in tech, and diverse forms of success and leadership.

“I’m delighted that Gemma’s hard work and commitment to team culture are recognised with these nominations. I’m grateful for her exceptional leadership and inclusive approach that she now brings to Sedex. She is already prioritising culture, collaboration, and building trusted relationships – treating each individual with respect and care, while driving individual and business success.”

Ross Heritage, Chief Technology Officer at Sedex

Recognising inspirational women

Gemma’s finalist categories focus on women who’ve transformed businesses or departments and demonstrated strong positive influence through a leadership role.

“I’m so pleased to be shortlisted for these awards; I hope they inspire other women to move into a tech leadership role,” Gemma said. “While I’m proud of business results that I’ve contributed to, more valuable for me is the culture I grow as a leader. This is underpinned by the management style I’ve cultivated across my career. My approach creates a more empowering, inclusive environment for teams, helping us hit targets by enabling our best people to do their best work.”

“Leadership for me is about making sure people know they can succeed as their authentic selves and humanising the workplace. For example, by demonstrating that you can be a working mum in a tough environment, and get results without compromising your family priorities – and creating the right culture to enable this for others.”

She has a deep understanding and capability to connect commercial needs with the approach and aspirations of product departments. She mentors and leads those around her; her positive energy is contagious.”

The 2023 Women In Tech Excellence Awards winners were announced at a November awards dinner in London. This brought together the best in the tech industry to celebrate female leaders’ achievements.
