Sedex to restrict SMETA audits to businesses that are Sedex members only
At Sedex, we’re committed to ensuring that every SMETA audit conducted around the world meets the standard of quality laid out by our Audit Quality Programme (AQP). That’s why in 2018, we restricted the use of our SMETA methodology to an approved list of Affiliate Audit Companies able to carry out a SMETA audit.
There are currently a small number of SMETA audits that aren’t uploaded to the Sedex platform, limiting our ability to assess and control audit quality. Consequently, as the next step on our journey of continuous improvement, we are restricting the use of SMETA audits to businesses that are Sedex members only.
From 4 May 2022, only Sedex members will be allowed to have a SMETA audit (full or follow up) conducted by an Affiliate Audit Company.
How will this change improve the quality of SMETA audits?
As it will now be compulsory for any SMETA audit to be uploaded to the Sedex platform, this change will increase our visibility of audits being conducted and improve our ability to assess and control audit quality.
As all SMETA audits will now be uploaded to the Sedex platform, this will mean:
- We have visibility of all audits and will be able to better improve our ability to assess and control audit quality
- Audits on the platform can be verified as genuine using our Audit Verifier Tool
- The audit findings will be used to better inform your analysis of supply chain risk through the Sedex platform.
